  1. Thank you for taking the time to read this file and to evaluate the
  2. shareware program BBSee.  I believe that it will become one of your most
  3. used programs.  Included with this package is a file QUICKST.ART which
  4. will give you a very quick intro. into BBSee and is MUST reading.  To
  5. best understand the program you will also need to read the
  6. documentation, for if you don't you will miss a LOT of power.

  8. The BBSee program and documentation is distributed in two .ZIP files
  9. BBSEE##A.ZIP and BBSEE##B.ZIP.  The ## refers to the current version,
  10. which presently is 2.3 (hence BBSEE23A and BBSEE23B). Two other files
  11. BBSEE##X and BBSEE##C (the 'extras' and 'conversion' files) are also
  12. available but they may not be uploaded to every BBS, I leave it up to
  13. users to distribute it.  These files are not necessary for BBSee
  14. operation, but they do add power to the use of BBSee.  The latest
  15. version of all BBSee files are available on the Synapse BBS as detailed
  16. in BBSee's documentation.

  18. 1.  WHAT FILES DO I NEED TO UPGRADE FROM PREVIOUS VERSIONS.

  20. The BBSEE23A.ZIP contains the significant portion of the upgrades to
  21. version 2.3.  It is a must.
  22.  
  23. The changes in the BBSEE23B (since 20B) file are minor.  The
  24. documentation has of course been changed to cover new features (as
  25. covered in WHATS.NEW).  IMPORT.EXE (and BBSee) have been updated to
  26. handle a few more BBS types automatically.

  28. BBSEE23C.ZIP.  The converstion utility from other programs has been
  29. completely rewritten as CATCON.EXE since 2.0.  This one program now
  30. converts from CatDisk, Intelicat, Wssindex, DiskTrak, and CUDM.  Support
  31. for CatDisk 43 character descriptions was added in 2.3. In addition
  32. there is a new small utility to convert the ASP catalog to a format
  33. which can be imported into BBSee, which did not change from 2.2.  A
  34. third conversion program FIX4DIZ.EXE has been added, see next section.

  36. BBSEE23X.ZIP is the same file as BBSEE20X.ZIP with one exception.
  37. BBC2PCB.EXE was refined in V2.2 to allow output without the PCBoard '|'
  38. character, and with a maximum column width of 78.

  40. 2.  FILE_ID.DIZ/DESC.SDI extraction.

  42. Since BBSee V2.0 came out it has come to my attention that BBSee did not
  43. make the proper allowance to handle these files, if they were created
  44. with an incorrect format.  Specifically, these files should NEVER be
  45. more than 512 characters long, but some people did not heed this
  46. specification.  BBSee now truncates descriptions with more than 512
  47. characters, but there is a rare case that if you extracted an invalid
  48. description, that existing descriptions in your database were not be
  49. properly handled, which could lead to a hung machine if record buffers
  50. overflowed (especially in Catalog description print reports).

  52. To correct this there is a fixup program FIX4DIZ.EXE contained in the
  53. file BBSEE23C.ZIP.
